Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., introduced legislation in June 2022 supported by the American Hospital Association that would direct the Government Accountability Office to study the travel nursing industry’s business and payment practices, including their impact on workforce shortages and potential price gouging during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Many hospitals and health systems are facing significant financial and operational concerns as a result of the unsustainable rates charged by travel nurse staffing agencies,” AHA said in a letter of support. A House companion bill is under consideration as well.
