NHHA Cites House, Senate Agreement on Medicare Physician Rates, Health Care Extenders

An e-mail communique from Kathy Bizarro, Executive Vice President / Federal Relations with the New Hampshire Hospital Association to NH hospital Chief Executive Officers, Chief Financial Officers and Advocacy Task Force members:
The House and Senate today gave final approval to a two-month extension of the payroll tax holiday and emergency unemployment insurance benefits, along with a two-month extension of the current Medicare physician payment rates, thereby preventing a 27.4% cut to Medicare physician payments that was scheduled to take effect Jan. 1. The bill also includes extensions of the Medicare health care “extenders” due to expire this year for an additional two months. The president is expected to sign the bill into law shortly. All of these extensions will expire on February 29th so many of the issues we faced regarding cuts to hospitals will again re-surface when Congress reconvenes in mid-January - so, our outreach will continue.
Thank you again for all of your communications to Congressmen Bass and Guinta and Senators Shaheen and Ayotte. Each of the congressional offices commented about the many messages they received from hospitals and each shared their appreciation for hearing from you all.
