Legislators have gone home, but their impact on health care in New Hampshire is just beginning to take hold with the start of the new state fiscal year –July 1st. Hospitals were hit the hardest with over $250 million in cuts in Medicaid payments - a devastating blow to hospitals and to the patients and communities they serve. Time will tell how individual hospitals will deal with this massive reduction in payments. But, as NHHA warned legislators, there will be significant impacts to the state's healthcare infrastructure.
The state budget was a major focus for hospitals this session, but plenty more bills were acted on that affect hospitals. Proposals dealing with health reform, Medicaid managed care, health information exchange, medical liability and more are discussed here.
