CONCORD – The American Hospital Association (AHA), in partnership with the New Hampshire Hospital Association, honored Arthur Nichols, president and CEO of the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, with the American Hospital Association Grassroots Champion Award on May 8.
As a 2012 Grassroots Champion, Nichols was recognized for his exceptional leadership in generating grassroots and community activity in support of his hospital's mission.
"We depend upon strong voices like Art Nichols to help tell the story of hospitals as cornerstones of the communities they serve," said Rich Umbdenstock, AHA president and CEO. "This award is a small token of our appreciation for his hard work and dedication to improving health and health care in America."
"Art Nichols is an innovator and a champion for doing the right thing," said Steve Ahnen, president of the New Hampshire Hospital Association. "His leadership is evident as his hospital collaborates with key leaders throughout Cheshire County to achieve the ambitious goal of leading Keene to be the healthiest community in the nation by 2020.
"That goal requires a tireless effort to ensure that the healthcare delivery system can meet the growing needs of its community," Ahnen added, "all during a time of great uncertainty due to a less-than-robust economy and downward pressures on reimbursement and resources."
Nichols joined with his fellow 2012 honorees from throughout the nation today at a special Breakfast of Grassroots Champions at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C.
